Geocache Description:

Enjoy views of the LA Waterfront, Vincent Thomas Bridge, and the Pacific. Great place to bring canine companion or fly a kite if you're treking to other caches nearby. Better to pickup during the day, at night gates can be closed. Short walk from parking coords to GZ

Been planning on putting a cahce near my new home for a while. Found this gem when showing off my new neighborhood to my mom and her bumpkin pup. Being raised so close to Yosemite, I always long for being in nature and from time to time a spot allowing me room to breath and views of wide open spaces, just like home.

Also discovered Greg Smith, a local Geography Professor and Activist at CSUDH. During a memorium for her late husband, June Burlingame Smith said, "Greg wanted a place for students and the community to come together that would connect them to nature and get them away from the stress and hustle and bustle of everyday life." This place fits the bill.

"Smith championed environmental causes in his community of San Pedro and throughout Los Angeles County [...]. Smith was also a member of the Los Angeles Tree Commission and founder and longtime president of the Point Fermin Residents Association in San Pedro. In 1991, Smith encouraged San Pedro residents to plant discarded Christmas trees at Angels Gate Park, resulting in the Greg Smith Conifer Grove, which now contains 300 trees of 13 varieties."

The cache can be found resting in this grove...
