Welcome to Corktown Park

This park was once the property of the Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo (TH&B) Railway. It served as a railyard, and ceased operations in 1988. In 1998 the City of Hamilton purchased the land and turned it into a park. It was originally called CP Lands Park, but the name was officially changed to Corktown Park in 2000.

Corktown is the oldest neighbourhood in Hamilton. In the 1800's and early 1900's, a large number of Irish immigrants once settled here. The First generation Irish-Canadians were the main labour force of Hamilton, some of them working for TH&B. Many immigrated from County Cork in Ireland, and that is how the neighbourhood got it's name.
