Vadsøya Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,

Geocache Description:

ENGLISH

Vadsøya is an island in Vadsø Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. The island lies in the Varangerfjorden, just south of the coast of the mainland Varanger Peninsula. The island is part of the town of Vadsø. The 0.8-square-kilometre (200-acre; 80-hectare) island is connected to the mainland by a bridge that branches off the European route E75 highway in the centre of the town of Vadsø. The Hurtigruten coastal express boats dock on Vadsøya.

The island was the original location of what is now the town of Vadsø. In the 1600s, the residents moved over to the mainland where the town was expanded. The island was also the site of the old Vadsø Church until it was moved in the early 1700s to the new townsite of Vadsø on the mainland.
