This traditional geocache is located near the Gotemba Trailhead on Mount Fuji. It is located on the Eastern side of the mountain, offering superb sunrise views, weather permitting. Views of the mountain from the nearby parking areas are also amazing, including the less depicted Hoei-san crater perspective.
This cache is an Otterbox approximately 5x7 inches. It is tied to the base of a tree with tan 550 cord. Please rehide well as this cache is constructed to last at least 25 years. The Gotemba trailhead is the lowest in elevation of the four fifth stations on Mt. Fuji. The trail is long. It takes more than twice as much time to ascend as the Yoshida approach. The ascent terminates at the crater rim. Here you can find the highest Japanese post office in Japan, operating 18 July-24 August. The descent is the most rapid for the trail length thanks to the Osunabashiri sand run where one could cover 3 meters per stride at a full run. This cache is a short distance from the upper parking area. The road is open to private vehicles, there are two buses to local train stations and there are several taxi services available, all dependent on operating season. There are very limitied services at the trailhead and the prices are about twice what you can find in town.
