Welcome to the Bridges of Whitchurch Series. We noticed a while ago that we have more than our fair share and they would create some good hiding places. Some of these can be done as cache and dash or as some nice circular walks in and around the town. Please park responsibly and take care crossing any roads.
This is the 13th in the series and can be done as part of an approx 3 mile walk around the western side of Whitchurch (Loop #2). Could also be Park and Walk.
Leaving BBWB #12 walk south back towards Whitchurch. There are two bridges here running under the South West Train line. The right hand bridge (looking south) used to be for the GWR Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway. The railway was in use from 1885 to 1963. The left hand bridge was probably built for a siding to feed the Whitchurch Soap Factory which stood where the Greenwoods housing estate is now. We remember as kids seeing some not very pleasant liquids collecting under this bridge which was always nicknamed the 'mucky bridge'. In his younger years Mr B climbed the front face of the GWR bridge where the brickwork lends itself to some nice hand an foot holds. This is also a favourite spot for muggle dog walkers.
Please take notice of any "Private" signs and do not wander into any places you shouldn't.
We enjoy reading logs, and would love hearing about the adventures you have when finding caches.
