Reka Mura izvira v Nizkih Turah v Avstriji, v Dravo se izliva pri Legradu na Hrvaškem. Iz alpske preide Mura v Sloveniji v nižinsko reko, za katero je bil nekdaj značilen širok rečni prostor s številnimi vijugami, stranskimi rokavi, zatoki, prodišči, poplavnimi logi in mrtvicami. Danes je večji del reke speljan v stalno strugo, kljub temu pa še vedno najdemo ob Muri in v murinih mrtvicah mnoge rastlinske in živalske vrste, ki so drugod že povsem izginile. Pri nas počasi tekoča reka je znana po plavajočih mlinih, nekoč jih je bilo na reki kar 94. Danes pa si lahko ogledate obnovljeni Babičev mlin s plavajočim vodnim kolesom pri Veržeju. Posebnost Mure je tudi »brod na Muri« - skela, ki preko Mure prevaža ljudi in vozila. Delujočih brodov na tem področju je kar nekaj, npr. v Krogu in Ižakovcih. Ob Muri je tudi sprehajalna in kolesarska pot, ki predstavlja raj za vse sprehajalce, pohodnike in kolesarje, saj ponuja spoznavanje neokrnjene narave, rastlinstva in živalstva ob reki Muri. Ob gledanju žuboreče vode in tišine, daleč stran od mestnega vrveža se človek sprosti in si nabere novega delovnega elana.
The river Mura springs in the Austrian Low Tauern and flows into the river Drava outside the town of Legrad in Croatia. In Slovenia, the Mura turns from an alpine to a lowland river characterized by its typical wide riverbed with numerous meanders, backwaters, gravel bars, wetlands and blind river branches. Nowadays the vast part of the river is led into a permanent riverbed. Nevertheless, one can still find many plant and animal species alongside the Mura that have vanished completely elsewhere. In Slovenia, the slow river is especially known for its floating mills. There once used to be as many as 94 mills on the Mura but the only one preserved today is the renovated Babič Mill with a floating water wheel near the town of Veržej. Another characteristic of river Mura is the »the Mura brod«, a type of a raft-ferry carrying people and vehicles to the other side of the river. Visitors can still find quite a few active ferries of this type on the Mura, for example in the village of Krog and the village of Ižakovci. The cycling and hiking route alongside the Mura is a paradise for nature lovers, hikers and cyclists as it provides numerous possibilities for enjoying the unspoiled beauty of nature, vegetation and wildlife by the river Mura. Listening to the rippling of waves and embracing the silence far away from the hustle and bustle of urban life is a perfect way to relax and regain strength.
A Mura folyó Ausztriában, az Alacsony Tátrában ered, és Horvátországban, Legradnál a Drávába ömlik. Szlovéniában az alpesi Mura síksági folyóvá alakul. Korábban széles meder, számos kanyarulat, mellékág, átfolyás, kavicsos sziget, ártér és holtág jellemezte. A folyó nagy része ma szabályozott mederben folyik, ennek ellenére a Mura mentén és a holtágakban még mindig számos olyan növény és állatfajta található, amelyek máshol már nem fordulnak elő. A nálunk lassú sodrású folyón egykor 94 úszó vízi malom működött. Ma Veržej mellett, az úszó vízi kerekű Babič malom látogatható. A Mura folyó egyik sajátos műtárgya a “murai komp”, amellyel utasokat és járműveket szállítanak az egyik partról a másikra. Krog és Ižakovci települések közelében, de másutt is, napjainkban is több komp közlekedik. A Mura mellett túra- és kerékpáros ösvény, mellette érintetlen természet, gazdag növényzet és állatvilág várja a kirándulókat. A csendben csak a víz csobogása hallatszik, messzi a város zajától itt mindenki ellazulhat, és feltöltődve térhet vissza a mindennapokba.
