Geocache Description:

This is a multi-cache, you have to visit all the waypoints in order to find out the final location of the cache.

Named after Lord Edward Smith-Stanley, 14th Earl of Derby, the village-town has many tourist attractions.  Let’s join our special tour in Stanley!

Waypoint 1: Tin Hau Temple
Located near the amphitheatre, the Tin Hau Temple was built in 1767 by the famous pirate Cheung Po Tsai, and is one of the oldest Tin Hau temples in Hong Kong.  In 1942, the Indian police Rur Singh shot a tiger appeared in Stanley, and the tiger skin is still exhibited inside the temple.  Part of the original temple was damaged during the passage of Typhoon Wanda in 1962.

There is a fire hydrant next to the temple with some digits painted on it in yellow.  What is the rightmost digit?  A

Waypoint 2: Murray House
Murray House is a Victorian-era building originally built in the present-day business district of Central in 1846 as officers’ quarters of the Murray Barracks, the building was relocated to Stanley during the 2000s.

At the north side of the building, there are some stone pillars (engraved with 同昌大押) preserved from the urban renewal project of Shanghai Street in Mongkok.  How many remnant pillars are there?  B

Waypoint 3: Stanley Main Street
Along the Stanley Main Street, there are many bars and restaurants for your refreshment.

There are some interesting-looking stones at the roundabouts at both ends of the street with fishes embossed on them.  How many stones are there at the roundabout at the east-end?  (Hint: There are five such stones at another roundabout at the west-end.)  C

Waypoint 4: Shui Sin Temple
The Shui Sin Temple was built around the 18th century by local fishermen, possibly during the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1735-1796).  The temple is dedicated to a less renowned water deity — Grandpa Shui Sin (水僊爺爺).

How many steps are there on the staircase to the temple?  D

Waypoint 5: Pat Kan Uk
Pat Kan Uk, as means literally, is a row of eight houses, and was built in 1930 by the Government to resite eight local farming families from Wong Ma Kok in order to recover the land for building the Stanley Barracks.

How many Indian Almond (Terminalia catappa) trees are there in the front yard of the houses?  E

Waypoint 6: Old Stanley Police Station
The Old Stanley Police Station was constructed in 1859, and was used by the Japanese Gendarmerie as headquarters during the Japanese Occupation.  It is the oldest remaining police station building in Hong Kong, and is now commercialized as a supermarket.

How many blocks are there making up the long stone bench right next to the historical building?  F

Final Stage:
It’s time to do the tedious calculations:

Checksum: A×B×C×D×E×F=36␣␣80

The cache is waiting for you at:

N 22° 13.[(B×C)+(D×E)−F]
E 114° 12.[(A+B+C)×(D+F)−(C+D+E+F)]
