This historic reserve marks the resting place of 24 Maori Warriors, killed in the fighting on the 4th June 1863 and buried in the outskirts of the stockade.
On top of the hill is a large concrete slab with a memorial plaque on it please take time to read this.
Near the stile is another sign with lots more information on it. Too much to be used in this blurb.
Across the road is Tataraimaka Pa Historic Reserve with a 10-minute return walk. One can only imagine the commanding views this had in days gone by as now trees obscure some of the views. Still worth the walk but can be slippery in wet conditions.
