91 years ago, a crow's nest and log cabin was built up here, most likely by the lookout himself, to spot smoke, and if it was close enough, go put it out before the fire got too big. Then in the thirties, as part of the CCC, at a time when most of Oregon's 849 lookouts were established, this place got upgraded to a frame cabin with a roof platform. The upgrade came just 3 years after the Tillamook Burn, and Bald Mountain is at the Southern edge of the Great Fire of 1933. It was also known as the Hell's Canyon Lookout.
Update 9/11/14. Found another great web site with pictures and a few logs from this lookout and a lot more throughout Oregon. http://oregonlookouts.weebly.com/yamhill-county.html
