Geocache Description:

This is a series of caches at or nearby sites that my geodog, Redtail, visited as a certified therapy dog.  Redtail is my golden retriever who loves to geocache with me.  He’s got a nose for a cache and knows when to sit and stay while I sign the log.  He is exceptionally sweet and kind.  When he was a puppy Mr. Redtail2000 and I promised that we would get him certified as a therapy dog.  Admittedly, he had to take Canine Good Citizenship twice because during the final exam he jumped on the instructor… but only because he loved her so much.  Those goldens sure do love to be a puppy!  Finally at the mature age of eight, he’s made the ranks as a therapy dog certified by the Southwest Canine Corps of Volunteers.  Now I get to share with you some of the more poignant events that occurred during our visits.  Please always be mindful and respectful of your surroundings when caching at these sites.

This geocache is dedicated to Louis Dunbar who spent the last leg of his journey on Mother Earth at Las Palomas before he passed onto the Spirit World when he was 92 years old.  Louis AKA Grandpa was a dear friend.  In fact his daughter in law is Morab777.  Grandpa always had a sense of humor about him and I believe that granted him longevity.

Redtail loves coming here because the front area is like a park.  He loves to roll on the fresh grass before and after our visit.  Be sure to check out the view of the park from the vista of the cache while you’re there.  On one of my visits to this rehabilitation and nursing home facility while we were in the park a gentleman greeted us in his wheelchair.  He recognized us from the VA hospital and he was here visiting family.  He shared a story that for five years hawks nested in the park.  Game and Fish along with bird enthusiasts couldn’t figure out why they were there.  Perhaps they were even redtail hawks?  I couldn’t find further information but I trust that this did happen as it has been known to occur in other metropolitan areas.

An elderly woman repeatedly shared with us while she visited with Redtail that you can never have too much love.  Another woman who followed us for the entire visit in her wheelchair shared that everyone loves to pet Redtail and after all who doesn’t like to be pet.  These folks just never cease to inspire me!

This one’s for you Grandpa because of all the seeds you’ve planted that have grown into tall trees!  Cache on…
