Geocache Description:

This cache will bring you to the beatiful bridge Anna van Saksenbrug, which overlooks the small canal De Rijpgracht. Read about its history and enjoy the search!

De Rijpgracht is a fairly small canal in the Bos en Lommer area, within the Landlust district. Both the canal and the street that surrounds it were named after Jan Corneliszoon Ripe. The canal, which was built in the 30s, branches off the larger canal Westelijk Marktkanaal, which goes along the west side of the Amsterdam's Food Center. Although there were plans to extend the canal up to the nearby Erasmusgracht, they were never carried over due to the amount of houses that would have been teared down.

The one and only bridge that crosses De Rijpgracht is named after Anna van Saksenbrug, the second wife of Willem van Oranje (better known for his nickname Willem de Zwijger, the main leader of the Dutch revolt against the Spanish that set off the Eighty Years' War). It is fairly wide bridge, originally thought to accomodate a never built tram line. In summer time, the bridge is beautified by flowerpots on both sides.

Just before the bridge, if you approach it from the south side, there is a small park that hosts an action-packed playground for the children, so bring your family along if you like!

Enjoy the bridge and the surroundings before you begin your search, and look closely :)

Please bring your own pen and make sure to leave the cache in the exact same position that you found it and safely attached!

Also please beware of muggles!. Use some stealth.
