The Workers Home building, a nice example of historicist architecture, was built between 1895 and 1897 by wealthy Vukovar citizen - Paunovic. It was built as a hotel, and besides different hospitality facilities it also contained theater. In 1918 the hotel was sold to the new owner, another wealthy Vukovar citizen - Gotfried.
At that time labor movement became quite strong in Vukovar, and when the building was on sale again in 1919, Vukovar workers have organized their own cooperative and have raised enough money to buy hotel. They transformed it into the Workers Home. The 2nd Congress of Yugoslav Communist Party was held in this building in 1920.
