Geocache Description:

THE ROYAL CANAL GREENWAY (between 11th / 12th lock )
The Royal Canal Greenway is well advanced, particularly in Dublin, Westmeath and Longford. When completed (which is envisaged for 2019), it will offer a first-class multi-purpose off-road walking and cycling link from the river Liffey in Dublin, through Counties Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Longford to Cloondara on the River Shannon. Two spur lines, one from Mullingar to Loch Owel, and the other running from south of Killashee to the town of Longford, are also part of the Greenway. See Longford to Cloondara and for Westmeath.
Completed sections of the Greenway castleknockFingal;
Ashtown to Castleknock; 2.5 km. In March, 2015 plans for the construction of the Royal Canal Greenway between Dublin’s docklands and Ashtown were announced. Work on the route is expected to start early in 2016. When competed it will extend the greenway from 3 to 10 Km, thereby providing a continuous off-road link, running alongside the canal from the river Liffey to Castleknock.
