Geocache Description:

Lake Hindmarsh in the Wimmera is Victoria's biggest freshwater lake. Water levels vary and it has long dry spells.. It is a good area for camping and very popular with off-road bike riders and 4WDrivers. This road isn't used much because it gets pretty rough further north, but I thought I would put a cache up here to show people a less well known part of the area and let them decide if they might like to explore.

This road running along the east side of Lake Hindmarsh is very unusual... Up to the cache the road is a good dirt road and fine in all weather. But past the cache the condition of the main road deteriorates and it starts splitting into multiple roads and tracks all running parallel to the lake.. Some of the tracks are inside the lake bank and some outside the bank.. If you want to head north along this road you can choose your path depending on the weather and what sort of terrain you want to explore, you have the choice of the rather neglected dirt road, or any of the other tracks which have varying amounts of sand or mud. There are some sand quarries for the local cement companies along here, so the roads must be used by trucks sometimes.

Please check road conditions with someone local before you decide to head north from the cache! After rain the mud could be too thick to get through and you cant always tell how thick it is till you are already in it.

Cache is a 200 ml sistema container.
