Dedicated to fellow cacher; DBart. As I took a lesson from his expert container design and cache labeling.
Welcome to Ossian! Early settlers found this swampy area attractive because it offered water for drinking and and game for food. However, families meticulously avoided the evening and morning fog from the swamp because of the belief it carried malaria.
At one time, it was more convenient for residents of Bluffton to travel to Cincinnati, OH than it was to travel to Fort Wayne because it was nearly impossible to pass through the dense swamps and woods in northern Wells County that spread eastward into the Black Swamp of Ohio. The swamp was so impervious to travel that wheeled transportation was impossible during most of the year, and local residents thought the rigors of travel to be unsuitable for anyone except adult men.
After the digging of the Eight Mile Creek, however, all that changed. Roads and railroads sprang up and Ossian became a viable community, and a nice resting point for travelers between Bluffton and Ossian.
Close parking with knowledge from property owner, but beware the other neighbors and Muggles.
