Geocache Description:

The cache is in a small camoed container adjacent to the road, big enough to hold a few small items. Bring your own pen/pencil. Please replace the cache exactly as you found it. The GPS may jump as there are trees nearby; use you geo-sense. The location is off a private road just past the end of the county-maintained road. Please be respectful of the nearby property owners and try to visit only during daylight hours.

There are no caches in this area of Lodi at all, and since this is off the main roads thought the location was perfect. It was placed with the permission of the property owners. The location is the former estate of William Henry DeVries, a well-regarded historical figure in San Joaquin County. Historical records indicate the house dates to 1876 and DeVries lived there until his death in 1908. An enormous oak tree stands proudly on its front lawn. Marion DeVries, William's son, served as a California congressman and US Court of Appeals judge, and was also influential in legislation which helped the Lodi wine industry flourish in the 1930's.
