Geocache Description:

Dabartinis metalinės konstrukcijos tiltas atstatytas pokario metais

[EN] Railway Bridge Klaipeda

In 1874 bridge was constructed for railway Klaipeda - Tilze. At the time it was third bridge in the city crossing river Dane.

Bridge was built of stones, formed five semicircle arcs. Tallest of them reached 13.25m height, and was 8.5m wide. All foot in the water had special structure protecting bridge from drifting ice in the spring.

This bridge wasn't tall enough for sail boats. Every tall boat had to lower its mast. Because of this there was build a crane for lifting mast after you cross the brindge.

Bridge was demolished in WW II while sieging city. Today we can see the fragment of the rest of the arc (near the street)

Rebuilt after war, this time of steel.
