Geocache Description:

A traditional geocache at a scenic river location at the end of a fairly easy and pleasant bushwalk (although steep stairs are involved)..

(Note: This is a replacement for the original Bushwalker's Basin geocache (BB1) which went missing early in 2014. Coordinates remain unchanged although the actual location has moved by a metre or so mainly vertically upwards in the hope of fooling a few muggles who are up to no good in this area. Thanks go to "notsovery" who set up the original Bushwalkers Basin geocache and who still has several other great ones active in the area.)

A 10 minute easy bushwalk generally eastward from the end of George's River Road brings you to the steps to what must be the best spot to visit the Georges River in the Macarthur.  Once down at river level you are presented with a beautiful 2 – 3 metre waterfall flowing into an olympic pool sized swimming hole complete with its own small sandy beach. A true gem of the Georges River Nature Reserve.

Locals have been coming here for generations so, for better or worse, the local council has in recent times upgraded the track and included the steps down to the river (more than 200 of them!). Some nice glimpses of the river below can be had on the way down.  Once down the steps you will come out into the open at the top of the small waterfall. After you have spent a few minutes taking in the beauty of the place, turn left and this takes you in the direction of the cache (BB2), and also a bit further on again to the tiny beach.

BB2 is fairly easy to get to, and geocachers should hopefully find the container quickly enough.  You will probably come across the (now empty) hiding place of BB1 first (it is fairly obvious) - you will need to climb up a metre or so from there and this is a bit of a scramble and requires some careful foot placement. It is a plastic screw top jar of about 1½ litres capacity.

If the weather is warm, be sure to bring swimmers and towel. Also you may well be pleasantly surprised to find you have the whole place to yourself. This is especially true on a weekday. Even if you are not alone there is rarely more than a handful of people around so securing the cache should be a cynch.
Prepare for some huffing and puffing on the steps back up to the top afterwards. You will be ready for another swim by then!

This is an ideal location to practise CITO. There is usually some rubbish left lying around so please take a plastic shopping bag and disposable gloves in with you and bring back some rubbish to take home and dispose of. Another tip worth remembering at this and all bush geocaches is to always pack an elastic bandage and know how to use it in relation to snake bite. You just never know.

First to Find honours go to bella at waggy. Congratulations and thanks for going to the trouble of getting my first cache physically active.
