La Biblioteca Malatestiana, memoria del mondo
La Biblioteca Malatestiana di Cesena è una biblioteca monastica di particolare importanza storica. Costruita nella metà del XV secolo, detiene due primati assoluti: 1) è stata la prima biblioteca civica d'Italia e d'Europa, cioè la prima biblioteca di proprietà pubblica e aperta a tutti i cittadini; 2) è l'unica biblioteca di tipo umanistico-conventuale al mondo ad aver mantenuto intatta la sua struttura ed il suoi codici fin dalla sua apertura, cioè per più di cinquecento anni.
L'Unesco ha riconosciuto l'importanza culturale della Malatestiana inserendola, prima in Italia, nel Registro della Memoria del Mondo
(a) La Biblioteca Malatestiana
Si parte sotto lo sguardo severo di Maurizio Bufalini, medico e studioso cesenate al quale è intitolato anche il locale ospedale, davanti alla porta della biblioteca.
Val la pena di entrare e, se ne hai il tempo, di visitare l'antica e famosa Aula del Nuti, per immergerti nella affascinante atmosfera del XV secolo.
Guarda attentamente la facciata della biblioteca e scoprirai alcuni frontoni triangolari. Contali e troverai la prima cifra (a).
(b) Renato Serra
Oggi tutto l'edificio è occupato dalla biblioteca, ma fino al 2008 una parte dei locali era occupata dallo storico Liceo Classico e per generazioni di cesenati l'entrata della biblioteca rimarrà sempre la porta del Liceo.
Poco lontano puoi vedere il monumento dedicato a Renato Serra (personaggio "x"), grande letterato cesenate, che si formò presso questa scuola (dove concluse gli studi a sedici anni, senza sostenere l'esame di maturità per via degli altissimi voti) e che fu anche direttore della stessa biblioteca malatestiana, prima di morire tragicamente durante la prima guerra mondiale, sul Monte Podgora.
Se osservi bene, puoi scoprire a chi era (ed è tuttora) intitolato il Liceo Ginnasio (personaggio "y").
Per trovare la seconda cifra (b), conta le lettere che formano i cognomi di questi due illustri personaggi e sottrai un numero dall'altro per avere la cifra che ti serve (x - y = b).
(c) La piadina romagnola
E' tempo di una pausa e magari hai voglia di mangiare qualcosa.
A Cesena ed in Romagna devi cercare un chiosco di piadina.
Cerca quello più vicino, non è lontano!
A Cesena, si sa, puoi trovare la vera piadina romagnola, quella un po' spessa e non troppo unta, da mangiare da sola o magari con una bella farcitura di salame romagnolo.
Trova il numero del chiosco (x), sottrai uno e dividilo a metà ( (x-1) / 2 = c ).
(d) Il Palazzo del Ridotto
Adesso devi trovare il Palazzo del Ridotto; anche questa volta sono solo pochi passi.
Il palazzo fu sede del Consiglio Comunale e venne poi utilizzato come luogo di incontro e di riunione per i cittadini, attribuendogli il curioso nome di "Ridotto", con un termine dal significato oggi poco comune e forse anche per riferimento alla voce dialettale "ardota" ("ritrovo").
Oggi il piano superiore è utilizzato come sala conferenze e vi si tengono spesso convegni e pubbliche manifestazioni.
Trova il lato ovest dell'edificio e scopri quante finestre ha il primo piano su questo lato (d).

(e) Cesena ed il papato
Per trovare il prossimo indizio non ti muovere troppo, ma guarda in alto, verso il cielo, in cerca di santità.
Troverai uno dei due papi nati a Cesena, piissime persone.
I loro pontificati furono difficili e travagliati, poiché si trovarono a lottare con Napoleone e la rivoluzione francese.
Uno di loro fu il papa immortalato nel famoso film di Monicelli "Il Marchese del Grillo", con Alberto Sordi, ma anche per l'altro papa furono tempi difficili.
Scopri quale dei due papi è ritratto nella statua ed il suo numero ti darà la prossima cifra (e).
Non ti serve il latino, ma devi saper leggere i numeri romani.
(f) Il Duomo
Adesso prosegui lungo il corso, intitolato a Giuseppe Mazzini, e cerca il Duomo di Cesena, dedicato al patrono della città, San Giovanni Battista.
Vai davanti all'entrata principale, di fronte al portale, ornato da un'opera in bronzo dell'artista cesenate Ilario Fioravanti.
Entra per ammirarne l'interno, ma non dimenticare di contare i gradini che ti portano all'entrata, ed avrai l'ultimo numero (f).

Bene, se hai scoperto tutti gli indizi, sei arrivato al punto finale, nei pressi della casa dove nacque un famoso personaggio (dovresti conoscerlo già!).
Su una parete è affissa una iscrizione che lo ricorda.

The Malatestiana Library, Memory of the world
The Malatestiana Library of Cesena is a monastic library of particular historical importance. Built in the middle of the fifteenth century, it has two absolute records:
1) it was the first public library in Italy and in Europe, i.e. the first library of public property and open to all citizens;
2) it is the only library of this kind in the world to have kept intact its structure and its ancient books since its opening, that is, for more than 550 years.
UNESCO has recognized the cultural importance of this library, and has included it, first in Italy, in the Memory of the World Register.
(a) The Malatestiana Library
We start under the stern look of Maurizio Bufalini, a physician and scholar born in Cesena, just in front of the entrance of the library.
If you have time, don't miss the visit to the famous Room of Nuti, and let yourself feel the fascinating atmosphere of the fifteenth century.
If you look closely at the library, you will see some triangular pediments. Count them and you will find the first digit (a).
(b) Renato Serra
Today the entire building is occupied by the library, but until 2008 part of the premises was occupied by the Liceo Classico (High School specializing in classical studies).
Not far away you can see the monument dedicated to Renato Serra ("x"), a great scholar of Cesena, which was formed at this school (where he completed his studies at sixteen, without taking the exam of maturity because of his high ratings), and who was also director of the library, before he died tragically during the First World War.
If you look carefully, you can find out to whom the Liceo Classico was (and still is) dedicated ("y").
To find the second digit (b), count the letters of the surnames of these two illustrious men and subtract one number from the other to get what you need (x - y = b).
(c) The Piadina
It 's time to take a break and maybe you want to eat something.
If you are in Cesena, i.e. in the Romagna region, you need to look for a kiosk of Piadina.
Find the nearest one, it's not far away!
In Cesena, you know, you can find the true piadina, not too thin and not too greasy. Eat it alone or maybe with a nice filling of local salami or ham.
Find the house number of the kiosk (x), subtract one and divide it in half ((x-1) / 2 = c).
(d) The Ridotto Palace
Now you have to find the "Palazzo del Ridotto"; it's only a few steps away.
The palace was the seat of the City Council and was later used as a meeting place, giving it the curious name of "Ridotto" (literally "reduced"), maybe referring to the dialect word "ardota" ("meeting").
Today, the upper floor is used as a conference room and many public events are held there.
Find the west side of the building and find out how many windows in the first floor open on this side (d).
(e) Cesena and the papacy
To find the next clue, don't go far. Just look up at the sky in search of holiness.
You'll find one of the two popes born in Cesena, very pious people.
Their pontificates were difficult and troubled, and they had to fight Napoleon and the French Revolution.
One of them was the Pope immortalized in the famous movie of Monicelli "The Marquis of Grillo", starring Alberto Sordi.
Find out which one of the two popes is portrayed in the statue and his number will give you the next digit (e).
You do not need Latin, but you should know how to read roman numerals.
(f) The Cathedral
Now continue along the main street, named after Giuseppe Mazzini, and search for the Cathedral of Cesena, dedicated to the patron saint, San Giovanni.
Go in front of the main entrance, where you will find a wonderful bronze portal, made by the artist Ilario Fioravanti.
Go inside to admire the interiors, and count the steps that let you in to get the last digit (f).
Count them all, even the last one!
The final
Well, if you found all the clues, now you are in the final location, near the house where a famous man was born (you should already know him!).
On a wall there's an inscription referring to him.
To find the cache, go in front of the house and look to your left for the place where rainwater passes
