ITA: L'Orto Botanico di Cagliari è un giardino botanico progettato e diretto dall'Università di Cagliari, inaugurato nel 1866. Al giorno d'oggi, contiene circa 2000 specie vegetali, prevalentemente originarie dal Mediterraneo, ma con una buona presenza di piante grasse e tropicali. Il giardino è suddiviso in tre sezioni principali:- Piante del Mediterraneo, che rappresentano le tre fasce della vegetazione della Sardegna cosi' come le specie provenienti dall' Australia, California e Cile; - Piante grasse - circa 1000 unità di piante grasse quali l' Echinocereus, Euphorbia, Lamphrantus, Mammillaria, Opuntia, etc, coltivate in serra e all'aperto, pressoche' equamente suddivise tra specie di origini africane e americane; - Piante tropicali. In tutto, il giardino contiene circa 600 alberi e 550 arbusti. Di pregio speciale, l'area dedicata alla collezione palmizia con circa 60 esemplari di Euphorbia canariensis.L'area del giardino riveste inoltre una notevole importanza di carattere archeologico anche per la presenza di cisterne e pozzi di età romana: Il pozzo romano, detto libarium, dove si abbeveravano gli attori che si esibivano nel vicino anfiteatro; la grotta Gennari, un Calidarium; una cisterna romana ed un tratto dell'acquedotto romano.
