Geocache Description:

A small cache, only a log to sign, bring a pen.

This cache is located near a business that provides Land Surveying services.  While you are here, take a moment to reflect on the long history of Surveying.  Known as the worlds second oldest profession, surveying has been around since the beginning of recorded history over 6000 years ago.  Using simple geometry, ancient surveyors subdivided the Roman Empire, built Stonehenge, and the Pyramids of Egypt.  Using a well, the sun, and geometry, Eratosthenes in about 250 BC estimated the circumference of the earth to 98% of the true number.  Over time, the methods of establishing boundaries has changed dramatically.  From Gunther's Chains and Plane Tables to Theodolites and Total Stations, to Global Positioning Systems, the technology has certainly improved, but the basic mathematical formulas used have not changed in over 6000 years.
