Your First Car Letterbox Hybrid

This cache has been archived.

m&m O: On my latest visit to the location I saw that the perfectly good wooden fence has been taken down and replaced with chain-link. No sign of the cache container.

I guess that first car only lasted a few years as well.

Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed in south Moorhead, with permission of management.

Make sure you approach the cache from the north.

This Letterbox Hybrid is dedicated to your first car, whether is has been gone for decades, or you have not yet made the purchase. The stamp with the logbook is not a trade item, it is for stamping personal logbooks. Due to cold weather this letterbox does not hold an ink pad or a pen, be sure to bring your own.

There are two ways to find a Letterbox hybrid cache. The first is to follow directions that may include compass headings, landmarks, or even a story or poem. The second is to use a GPSr to go to the listed coords. To find this Letterbox, without using a GPSr, geocachers and letterboxers can go to the southwest corner of the intersection of 14th Street and 30th Avenue South. On this corner you will find a large parking lot. Staying to the east of the building head to the southernmost light post; once there, or before, find the heading you will need to travel to reach the Letterbox Hybrid.

My first car was a ’79 Monte Carlo, an American made Chevrolet two-door. First made in 1970 the Monte Carlo went through six generations before being discontinued in 2007. The ’79 came with a 200 CID V6, a wheelbase of 108” and a curb weight of 3,212 pounds, 27 lbs more for the SuperSport. Having a big engine in the front and little weight in the back meant about all I had to do was think about ice and it would fishtail. It was a fun car to drive in the winter.

My wife's first car was an '84 Celebrity; we called it the square-butt car. The Celebrity only had one generation, but was the best-selling car in the United States in 1986. The coupe was discontinued in 1988, the sedan in '89 and the wagon the year after that. The coupe and sedan both measure 188.3", while the wagon is 190.8". This is the car we held on to when we went down to one car for our move to Montana, front wheel drive is nice in the snow. The car's plates from two or three states are hanging in the garage.

Back to finding the Letterbox Hybrid. Standing at the light post cast your view on a heading equal to the year of my first car, plus the year of my wife's first car, minus the generation my Monte was, plus the number of doors my first car had. You are standing in a parking lot, so the items around you might change; cars, trailers campers and trucks, they all come and go. To find the hiding place look for something that will not be moved, there is where you will find the cache.

Happy geocaching!
