Camminare per le strade, i vicoli e le piazzette del Quartiere di San Pellegrino è come fare un viaggio indietro nel tempo e tornare per incanto in una città italiana alla fine del Medioevo. Qui quasi tutto è rimasto intatto da secoli: palazzi nobiliari, semplici case, torri, cortili, cavalcavia, loggiati, balconi e profferli, le scale esterne così caratteristiche dell’architettura domestica di Viterbo.
Asse del quartiere è Via San Pellegrino che lo attraversa interamente e al centro della quale si apre Piazza San Pellegrino, che deve il nome - lei come tutto il quartiere - alla chiesina che su essa si affaccia.
Due lati della piazza sono invece occupati dallo splendido Palazzo degli Alessandri, che nel 1251 stava per essere distrutto dai rivali di questa famiglia – i Tignosi e i Cocco – se non fosse intervenuto papa Innocenzo IV in persona. Dietro il palazzo, l’altissima Torre Scacciaricci completa questo scorcio veramente unico.

Walking through the streets, alleys and squares in the District of San Pellegrino is like taking a trip back in time and come back in the Italian city at the end of the Middle Ages. Here, almost everything has remained intact for centuries; simple houses, towers, courtyards, overpasses, loggias, balconies and "profferli" (an external stairs so characteristic of the domestic architecture of Viterbo).
In the middle of the district is Via San Pellegrino passing through it entirely and in the center of which is Piazza San Pellegrino, that take his name from the church that it overlooks.
Two sides of the square are occupied by the beautiful" Palazzo degli Alessandri", that in 1251 was about to be destroyed by the rivals of this family - the Tignosi and Cocco - only with the intervent of Pope Innocent IV in person the palace survive. Behind the palace, the high tower Scacciaricci.
