A quick, easy hide in McClung Park near a historic location.
McClung Park had an interesting history. It was originally a State Park. When the State was acquiring land for the Missouri State Prison, just down the street, the City of Jefferson owned some land in the area that the State wanted to get. The City and the State decided to make a property swap so the State got some more land for the prison and the City got McClung Park. Part of the agreement allowed the State to quarry some rock from the area to make the walls. This cache is near one of the quarries (another being just south of the park on Lincoln University property) and you can see some of the kind of rock that was excavated. The dance hall on top of the hill as well as the outdoor pavilion were built by prison labor during this time too.
