Vidikovac "Šarengradska ada"

Šarengradska ada je zapravo nastala 1892. kada su austrougarske vlasti odlučile prokopati 12 kilometara dug kanal od Opatovca do Šarengrada u koji su preusmjerene dunavske vode. Budući da na tom području još uvijek nije riješeno granično pitanje između Srbije i Hrvatske, ada je trenutno "ničija zemlja" i postala je dom za krda jelena i divljih svinja. Zanimljivo je i to da je Šarengradska ada nakon Kopačkog rita najveći ornitološki rezervat u ovom dijelu Europe i najveće prirodno mrijestilište divljeg šarana na Dunavu, te stanište rijetkih vrsta drveća i bilja.

Viewpoint Šarengradska ada

The Island of Šarengrad (Croatian: Šarengradska ada) is a Danube river island situated close to the village of Šarengrad in Croatia. Old riverbed of the Danube caused problems for the navigation due to its heavy bending in this area. In order to solve the problem, Austria-Hungary began digging the canal which would straighten the flow of the river in 1892. After 17 years, the Mohovo-Šarengrad canal was finally finished, and as a result the Island of Šarengrad was formed in 1909. Since border issues between Serbia and Croatia have not yet been resolved, the island is currently a "no man's land" and has become a home for deer and wild pigs. Interestingly, Šarengradska ada is the second largest ornithological reserve in this part of Europe (after Kopački rit) and the largest natural hatchery of wild carp on the Danube. It is also a habitat of some rare species of trees and plants.
