Kiwi Way #10
This little “way” was inspired by a geocache in Polson GC3J9G4 “Kiwi’s Nest”. There were some Kiwi “eggs” at the nest and I was given a blessing to take one home and try to hatch it. Low and behold, with global warming, not only did it hatch, but some more were born from it, and they are thriving here at the “Pig Farm”.
The “Kiwi Way” was placed in the Pig Farm to inspire you to include outdoor activities in your daily routine. This is a 3.7-mile loop (approximately 600 feet elevation gain), recommended to be taken in numbered order 1-12; if you go in reverse order, you could end up on a different trail. These caches should be accessible in winter (via ski or snowshoe) unless otherwise noted and hints aren’t needed if written in the name or story. Make sure to bring your own pen. Remember, this is a loop trail, and all caches are less than 200 feet from the trail. The reception isn’t very good here (+/- 30 feet sometimes), so hints should help.
You are recreating on Montana State School Trust Lands and this requires a recreational use permit that can be purchased from most sporting good stores. You’ll see all kinds of uses: walking, hiking, biking, horseback riding, snowshoeing, skiing, etc. Please announce your presence to horse riders and be careful during hunting season and wear hunter orange; have fun, be safe. Always be prepared in northwest Montana’s forests, and carry bear spray.
