The pickleweed or salicornia is a common plant here that thrives along the tidal marshes since it can tolerate immersion in salt water. Just on the other side of this levee you can see fields of pickleweed along the slough.
Before Redwood Shores was annexed by Redwood City and diked off in 1960s the land here was owned by Leslie Salt Inc. for their salt evaporation ponds. What appears to be here is a remnant of pier from the days before the outer levy you are standing on was built. To the north as you look across Belmont Slough is Foster City and Sea Cloud Park. To the west is the Bayshore Technology Park, home to a number of start-ups and small technology companies.
