Geocache Description:

Multi Cache with the Orleans airport in the middle!

The posted coordinates do not take you to the actual cache.  Instead, the posted coordinates bring you to the front gate of the Orleans, Indiana airport.  Yep, you read that right...  Orleans has an airport!  Believe it or not. I've lived just across the field, to the north, from this airport for the past 14 years.  Living here hasn't been quite like living next to LAX or anything, but we've seen our share of neat aircraft come in to visit our airport.  It hasn't been that uncommon to have military helicopters come in blacked out in the middle of the night and hang out for a while.  Many radio controlled aircraft flyers spend time on the runway flying their planes.   A couple years ago, our town even held a baloon glow and we set up a canopy in the front yard and enjoyed the view.  Every once in a while, a real live airplane comes in for a landing or takes off.

The Orleans airport runway is 3,456 feet long and is a publicly owned airport.  This multi will help you visualize just how long that is.

At the posted coordinates you will see the airport welcome sign on the fence near the gate.  Count the number of LETTERS on the sign.  Take that number and flip the digits and then add 26.  That will be the last two digits of your Northerly coordinate:  N 38  39.5xx.

Take the elevation above sea level (it is on the sign) and subtract 490.  This will be the last 3 digits of your westerly coordinate:  W 086  26.xxx.

Use these coordinates to locate the actual cache site.  There is a pull off at the site on the south side of the road. Bring your own pen.
