O.C.H.1:Experimental Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Team Microdot: It seems a bit sad to archive an event - especially one that was great fun [:)]

All the logs are in though and it's time to de-clutter the map by hitting the archive button.

Thanks once again to all who took part with such enthusiasm - and for completing the post-event questionnaire which has provided lots of useful feedback which can be factored into future events [8D]

Until next time [;)]

Geocache Description:

JOIN US!

At the published coordinates from 1pm until 2pm** on Saturday 4th October for opportunities to interact with other individuals and groups who enjoy hunting in the woods for hidden boxes containing scrolls of paper and - if you so wish - take part in the following activity which has been devised and organised for your delectation and delight

**Event activities are classed by Groundspeak as additions to the event itself and thus are entirely optional. Be at the published coordinates between the official event start and end times and you can post an Attended log - whether you take part in the activities or not. Please note that we expect the organised activity to take a further 2 to 2.5 hours to complete.

Please indicate in your Will Attend log if you're planning to take part in the organised activity so that the ongoing planning and delivery is appropriate for the number of participants.

Organised Cacher Hunt

Typically the process of geocaching involves the use of technology, navigational and observational skills, deduction and detection to locate a hidden container and, in most cases, make an identifying mark on the log contained within as evidence that we found it.

This hunt works in almost exactly the same way - except that your ultimate target is not a cache, but a cacher who will be hiding somewhere in the arena - a section of Lever Park.

The Rules of Engagement

  • The published coordinates of the event are also the start location of the Organised Cacher Hunt.
  • Participants may hunt alone or in teams of up to five people.
  • Each team will be issued with a unique identity token which will be used to record the time the team embarks on and then completes the hunt by finding the hidden cacher. This will introduce an element of friendly competition between teams - for fun only - there are no prizes, although the information will be used post-hunt to compile a leaderboard showing the time taken by each team to complete the hunt, which will be added to this event page.
  • In order to avoid the hunt turning into a long procession of cachers plodding around the arena in one long line, start times will be staggered two to three minutes apart.
  • Once you have your unique identity token you'll be given the coordinates for the first of a series of clues which will ultimately reveal the location of the hidden cacher. You will also be shown an example of a clue so that you know exactly what you are looking for.
  • Each clue will provide at least one digit from the coordinates of the hidden cacher's location.
  • Each clue will provide the full coordinates of at least two other clues.
  • The clues will be hidden simply - the average cacher should be able to find each of them quickly.
  • The clues are hidden alongside or in some cases a few metres from one of the recognisable paths which criss-cross the park. Please use common sense when navigating between them - if your route looks like it's above the given Terrain rating of T2.5 - you're probably going the wrong way!
  • Once you've made a note of all of the useful information from a clue, re-hide it in exactly the same place ready for the next hunter.
  • On successfully completing the hunt, present your unique identity token to the hidden cacher so that your completion time can be recorded.
  • Stay safe - and have fun

Saturday 4th October 2014 - the event is over, the hunt complete and the times are in - so how did everyone do? Well - here's the promised leaderboard - well done everyone
