Geocache Description:

Find five geocaches that the owners have named after themselves!

One of the fun things about placing a cache is coming up with just the right name for it.  Many people choose to name their cache after the location.  Some make a comment on the container itself by the name.   Some cache names come about as part of a series.  But there are SOME that are named after the cacher who placed the cache.

Now who would be so vain as to name their cache after themselves?  Well, me for one.  Working on a cache that I was placing near Christmas, I did a little play on words, well part of my caching name anyway, and placed RedhedMerry’s Christmas Cache (GC227N3.)  All of my 50 other hides have had unique names that didn’t have anything to do with me.   So guess I’m only a little bit vain.

This made me think:  What other caches out there are named after the cacher that placed them?  From there evolved a challenge that I don’t think I’ve seen elsewhere , though I could be wrong.

Your challenge:  In order to qualify for this cache, you must find five geocaches that have the name of the hider or team as part or all of the title of the cache. This cache is at the posted coordinates.

  • Tribute caches (where a cacher or team puts out a cache named after another cacher or team) DO NOT COUNT.
  • You may only use one cache named after each cacher or team.  For example, you may only use one of the DewLou’s Stash caches in fulfilling the challenge.
  • These caches can be located anywhere, and can be found by you at any time during your caching history, past, present, or future.
  • If “you’re so vain…” and have named any of your own hides after yourself or your team, you may only use one of those hides as part of meeting the logging requirements for this challenge.
  • Please list the five caches by name, GC code, date found or placed, and name of cacher or team that hid the cache in your online log.

You may use RedhedMerry’s Christmas Cache as one of your five finds, even though Mary is spelled a little differently.  If you have any doubts about the suitability of a particular cache to help complete the challenge, please contact me through my gc.com profile.

My requirements might look like this in my online log:

DewLou’s Stash 6 – GCZ7JM – found 11-14-2006 – DewLou

Redhed”Merry”’s Christmas Cache – GC227N3 – placed 12-23-2009 – RedhedMary

Boomer (Bear) Park – GC4BXNJ – found 6-15-2014 – Boomerbear

100proof’s Pub Crawl #1 – GCVKE3 – found 6-6-2006 – 100proof

Markfromarc – GC1MV52 – found 4-20-2012 - markfromarc

If you find the cache, but have yet to meet the requirements, it’s fine to log your find as a note and change that to a smiley when you do meet the requirements.

I wonder if Carly Simon has ever geocached?  Now you have that song in your head, don’t you, don’t you?
