Geocache Description:

The Tuscarawas County CVB is hosting a geocaching event at the New Philadelphia Holiday Inn Express on September 26th in order to meet both the region's new and experienced geocachers. We have created an eight (8) cache geo-tour we call "History Makes a Left Turn" that will enable cachers to explore the area's rich transportation history (from canal boats to cars and everything in between).

When: 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Contact: (330) 602-2420 / web@traveltusc.com - Please contact us to RSVP so we can have enough food/drinks avaialble.

The Holiday Inn Express here in New Philadelphia has graciously allowed us to host an event on September 26th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm for the area's geocachers. If you need a place to stay, mention geocaching to their front desk as they've blocked off some rooms if you want them. We're going to have free pizza and drinks (water/pop) available for guests. One guest will also have the chance to win a Geocache.com Find-a-Cache Starter Kit.

This event will serve to kickoff the release of the eight (8) caches we've placed throughout the county, which will go live at midnight. We have 200 trackable geocoins available for those who find all eight (8). These coins can be collected from either the Holiday Inn Express in New Philadelphia or in our downtown offices (124 E High AVE) with the completion of our passport.

Our office will be open from 8:00am to noon on the following morning (September 27th) to offer free Wi-Fi, coffee and any other assistance to geocachers in the area.

Attention:

1) There is some construction along W High AVE in New Philadelphia -- this is the main avenue to get from the interstate area into downtown -- there is a detour that takes you past the Holiday Inn Express and onto Front Street that you can use to reach the downtown and another access to US-250. There's descent signage around, but plan ahead for some increased traffic congestion.

2) There are caches in Sugarcreek and Baltic Ohio. We recommend taking SR-39 into Sugarcreek, but please note that the "Ohio Swiss Festival" is currently going on at the moment. The Village and the festival organizers are aware of geocaching and the cache, but traffic will be increased in the area and parking may be problematic. You should, however, be able to find free parking -- it just might not be super close to downtown.

3) There is also an event called the "Moccasin Roast" being held at Fort Laurens on Saturday. Parking may be crowded at the Memorial's entrance, but it should be clear near the Ohio & Erie Towpath trailhead. You do not have to pay to enter the grounds or park.

4) We did notify all area law enforcement that geocachers would be active this weekend. All of the departments knew what geocaching was and they do have our information.

As mentioned before, we're having extended office hours on Saturday. Even if you don't stop by and want to get caching, please call us if you have any issues. I'll also be checking email direct at web@traveltusc.com all weekend to deal with puzzle piece restocking, questions, cache maintenance, directions, etc.
