このアースキャシュでは、川崎市付近の多摩丘陵の大局的な構造について学びます。
You can learn the structure of Tama hilly area around Kawasaki city in a broad perspective.

(ちなみに、Tama Hilly area 1(GC4BE6Y)では、多摩川の浸食によって河床に現れている多摩丘陵の基礎をなす地層を観察することができます。)
(FYI: With Tama Hilly area 1(GC4BE6Y), you can also observe/learn the layer underlying Tama hilly area, which layer is exposed on the Tama river floor due to eroding action of the river)

多摩丘陵の北縁には段丘が存在しています。この段丘は海及び多摩川の作用によって長い時間をかけて形成されました。
There exist terraces at the northern edge of Tama hilly area. Those terraces were formed by actions of sea and river.

段丘の形成過程を以下で図を用いて説明します。
How the terraces were formed is explained with figs. below.

[Step 1]
約13万年前/About 130 thousands years ago

最終間氷期の海進によって、谷筋に沿って内陸まで海が入り込み、海底に砂や泥を堆積させた。
With the transgression during the last interglacial period, the sea came inland along the valley, deposited sand and clay on the bottom of the sea.


[Step 2]
約7万年前/About 70 thousands years ago

氷期の海退によって海面が低下して、川の侵食作用が段丘を形成した。
With the regression in glacial stage, the sea level became lower, and erosion action of the river formed a terrace.

[Step 3]

海退による海面低下は段階的に発生し、段丘も段階的に形成された。
Lowering of the sea level occurred in a stepwise fashion, thus terraces were also formed stepwisely.

下図は、川崎市付近の地層構造を表しています。多摩川付近の白い（ハッチングの無い）領域は段丘の最下面に当たり、多摩川低地と呼ばれる比較的平らな土地が広がっています。
The map below shows the structure of geological layers around Kawasaki city. The white (non-hatched) area corresponds to the lowest surface of the terrace structure. and is a relatively flat land, called as "Tamagawa low-lying land".

ハッチングされた領域は小高い丘になっており、下図で赤い点で示されるこのキャッシュの位置は多摩川低地と最初の段丘との境界にあります。この段丘には多摩川に注ぐ川によって複数の谷が刻まれ、高低差のある土地が形成されています。
The hatched areas are hills. The place of this cache indicated with the red point in the map is at the border of Tamagawa low-lying land and the first terrace,　in which terraces, a plurality of valleys have been formed by rivers leading to Tama river.



[Tasks for logging]

(Task 1)
(オプション)多摩川からキャッシュの位置まで歩いてみましょう（最短で30分くらいかかります）。平坦な土地が続いた後、キャッシュポイントの公園付近から急に高低差のある土地が現れることが分かります。
(optional) Walk from Tama river to the park at the cache point (it takes about 30 mins). You can recognize that you first see a flat land and suddenly a hilly land appears.

(Task 2)
キャッシュポイント付近の丘が上記の説明の作用によって形成されたというのは本当でしょうか？人工的に造成された高台であるということはないでしょうか？いえ、確かにこの場所は河岸段丘の一部です。それは、２つのReference Point, EXP1及びEXP2における斜面を見比べることによって確認することができます(そこでは、アップロードされた写真"EXP1"と"EXP2"のような露頭を観察することができます)。何故そのように言えるのか、あなたの考えをキャッシュオーナーに教えてください。
Is it true that the hill around the cache point was formed as explained above? Isn't there any possibility that it was formed artificially? No. It is certainly a part of the river terrace. You can confirm that by observing and comparing exposures at two Reference Points, EXP1 and EXP2, where you can observe the exposures as shown in the uploaded pictures "EXP1" and "EXP2". Please send your answer why you can say that it is the river terrace.
