Father Ted is a sitcom aired on Channel 4 between 1995 and !998, there are a total of 25 episodes starring a predominately Irish cast, it is set on the fictional Craggy Island, were three priests live together in the parochial house with their housekeeper Mrs Doyle. The three priests answer to Bishop Brennan, who has banished them to Craggy Island as punishment for different incidents in their past. Father Ted's nemesis is Father Dick Bryne of the nearby Rugged Island Parish. The show met with critical acclaim and is one of the most popular sitcoms in Irish television history.
Craggy Island is a bleak desolate community with no redeeming features and where nothing ever happens, populated by various lunatics. The weather is harsh and every building is shoddy. The island has its newspaper called the Craggy Island Examiner.
The Island has a long running feud with its almost identical counterpart Rugged Island.
