🚬 Manifattura Tabacchi 🚬 Traditional Cache

ENG: The building was built in 1400, it was a convent of the Friars Minor. In 1717 it was badly damaged by the spanish cannons and the religious went in the other convents of the city. It was then confiscated by the Royal Heritage and after restructuring and adaptation in the early decades, in 1800 was implanted  the "Manifattura Tabacchi". Initially, the production consisted of snuff and fine for pipe. In 1868, under the management of a company named "Regia" the production has changed, the campany produced Tuscan cigars. The sales were so good that the factory went back into the hands of Savoy,until 1884 when it was replaced by the State, which also expanded the business a few years later. It was one of the first industrial plants in Cagliari and gave employment to the first "state workers"of the island. Due to a shortage of staff and a failure about the modernization of the Manufacture it wasn't a the same level of the others industrial plants in Italy, so the Italian" Ente Tabacchi" announced the closure, which occurred the 17th December 2001.

ITA: L'edificio fu costruito verso la fine del '400 come convento dei frati minori. Nel 1717 fu gravemente danneggiato dai cannonidegli spagnoli e i religiosi si dispersero negli altri conventi cittadini. Fu poi incamerato dal Regio Patrimonio e dopouna ristrutturazione e un adattamento, nei primi decenni dell'800 venne impiantata la Manifatura Tabacchi. Inizialmente la produzione consisteva in tabacchi da fiuto e trinciati per pipa. Nel 1868 passò sotto la gestione di una società denominataRegia cambiando la produzione e passando ai sigari toscani. Le vendite andarono così bene che la fabbrica rientrò nelle mani deiSavoia, fino al 1884 in cui subentrò lo Stato, il quale ampliò anche la struttura pochi anni dopo. Fu uno dei primi 
stabilimenti industriali in funzione a Cagliari e diede occupazione ai primi lavoratori "statali" dell'isola. A causa di una carenza di personale e di un mancato ammodernamento la Manifattura non tenne il passo con gli altri impianti della penisola, così l'Ente Tabacchi Italiano ne annunciò la chiusura, avvenuta il 17 dicembre 2001.
