Just a few 10s of meters to the south west you can see the elk trap that is set up on the Mannix Ranch (the high linked fence).  In the past, elk cows and their calves have been lured into the enclosure with hay and water, and then safely captured, tagged and transported to Waterton, Yellowstone and Montana.  This is a great alternative to having a rifle hunt in the area ( somethin g they tried years ago which freaked out the locals!!!!).  Ranchers consider the LARGE elk herd here a nusance as they urine mark the big round bales, making the haystack unpalatible to cattle or horses.  I have counted nearly 200elk in the hillside in view to the south east.  In the fall, this field becomes a popular elk battleground as the bulls assemble their harams, and bellow (bugle) and fight to defend their honour.  It gets noisy at night!

The cache is a micro, off the ground,  in a suitable outer container for the hiding place. ...think "chestnuts roasting on an open fire"
