The first settler settled in Towitta in about 1866. The 20 acre working blocks which were allotted to many people. The owners had to erect a building on them and somebody had to sleep there for nine months of the year
The first post office opened in 1876 and had several different places and owners in Towitta. The post office closed on the 29th June 1979 and went to Sedan post office.
The first shop was operated by Mrs Chinner. Then in 1920 a new shop and post office was built and traded till March 1961.
The first school was in private residence in the 1870. Then in 1880 school was in the Towitta Wesleyan Church, then in 1894 the first Government school was built at Towitta which was school and residence combined, in 1922 the school building was built a few metres from the residence and closed in 1956 then the children went Sedan
The Towitta Wesleyan Methodist Church was opened in 1874. Then in 1897 the Congregational Union and Home Mission bought the church so it became the Congregational Church. The Towitta Church was closed in 1963 and I can still remember walking to church and then we had to go to Cambrai for church.
At the bottom of sedan hill there is a silver mine which you can still see some parts of buildings. The mine remained viable until water beat them and their antiquated equipment for pumping, the silver ore was transport to Freeling by wagon.
