Black ink, blue ink, red ink, or purple ink. Without ink, cache logs would rarely get signed. Yes, we have pencils, but who are we kidding? That's not as much fun. Ink has permanence. Ink is official!
Ever visit a big cache, only to find out it doesn't have a pen? It happens to the best of us, somehow the loyal geo-pen gets left behind, and we're left to find a gnarly stick, scratching our name in dirt. Or even worse...a finger prick to sign in blood (can someone say BIOHAZARD).
