Gallarate è stata fondata dai Galli qualche secolo avanti Cristo, in seguito conquistata dai Romani (quando acquisì il rango di "vicus"). In seguito divenne parte dell'Impero Carolingio e i Franchi, sulle mura dell'antico borgo fortificato romano, costruirono un castello del quale ora non rimane nulla, se non la sua impronta sulla topografia della città. Questa cache vi porta a "passeggiare" sopra le mura del castello. E passeggiando vedrete dei punti "storici" della città di Gallarate.
WP1: Il primo stage della cache vi porta in una delle piazze principali di Gallarate, dove potete trovare 3 importanti punti d'interesse storico:
Il primo indizio é su uno di questi 3 siti storici, e rappresenta l'anno nel quale é stato costruito. E' un numero di 4 cifre = ABCD
WP2: Ora inizia la marcia sulle mura virtuali del castello , passando per una strada pedonale circondata di negozi. Dopo un po', sulla vostra sinistra, trovere un murales. Accanto ad esso c'é un edificio con un porticato. Il numero civico di questo edificio vi dará la risposta per la lettera E.
WP3: Continuando a camminare si arriva alla via "Postcastello"unica testimonianza dell'esitenza del castello franchigeno. Qui si svolta a destra e si prosegue fino alla fine della via, dove vi attende una rotonda con in mezzo la statua di Arnaldo Pomodoro, dedicata ai caduti della Resistenza Italiana.
Questa rotonda é anche la sede di un altro storico negozio di Gallarate: una pasticceria fondata nel 1934 e famosa per i suoi "Amaretti di Gallarate". Questo negozio ha parecchie vetrine, ma non tutte sono uguali: il prossimo indizio F é il numero di vetrine che hanno nella parte superiore metallica il nome della pasticceria.
WP4: A meno di 100m dalla pasticceria, c'é un'altra testimonianza delle origini della città: una tomba gallica del I ec a.c. (della quale rimane una lapide incastonata nel centro della piazza). Nelle vicinanze c'é la Chiesa di Sant Antonio Abate: il prossimo indizio GH é il numero di quadrati sulla porta della chiesa.
WP5: Camminando lungo la strada pedonale, e girando a destra alla sua fine, si arriva alla piazza principale di Gallarate: Piazza della Libertá.
In questa piazza si trova la Basilica di Santa Maria: questa chiesa é stata costruita e ricostruita svariate volte: la prima nel X secolo, poi tra il XIV e XV secolo e infine tra il 1856 e il 1861. Durante quest'ultima ricostruzione, solo il tempio é stato costruito, mentre il campanile, alto 45 metri, é ancora lo stesso costruito nel 1454.
Ed é proprio su questo campanile che troverete la risposta alla domanda che vi darà la lettera I: quante finestrelle rettangolari sono presenti sulla torre, nella facciata che da sulla piazza?
WP6: A poca distanza dal campanile si trova la piu' antica chiesa di Gallarate ed edificio architettonicamente piu' importante della citta'.
Costruita tra i secoli XI e XII, é in stile romanico con elementi gotici.
Questa chiesa vi dara' due risposte:
- J= il numero di oggetti tenuti in mano dal santo al quale é dedicata la chiesa
- K= Il numero di colonne grigie che supportano le arcate che formano la falsa loggia (contate solo la facciata principale)
WP7: Ora state per uscire dal centro citta' (e dalle mura del castello), camminando lungo a stradina piena di negozi e bar. Alla fine della strada troverete l'altarino dedicato alla Madonna del Carmine.
Vicino a questo altare si trova un numero a cifre, indicante l'elevazione del posto: questa vi dara' le tre lettere LMN
WP8: L'ultimo stage della cache é qualcosa di piu' recente, testimonianza di quando Gallarate era la "Manchester d'Italia" o "la citta' delle 100 ciminiera". Nello specifico, questa era la ciminiera di una ditta di produzione di cuoio.
Contando le facce della base della ciminiera troverete l'ultimo indizio, la lettera O.

Description in English
The city of Gallarate was founded by Gauls and later conquered by Romans when it acquired the rank of "vicus". Later is became part of the Frankish Realm and a castle was erected on top of the Roman fortified vicus.
Following this cache you are going to "walk" on top of the "virtual" walls of this castle and discover some important historical sites of Gallarate.
WP1: The first stage of the cache takes you to one of the main squares of Gallarate, where you can find three important historical sites of Gallarate:
The first clue is located on one of these three historical sites and represents the year in which it was build. It's a 4 figures digit = ABCD
WP2: Now start your walk on the wall of castle, and you enter a pedestrian street full of shops. After a while you will see on your left a graffiti. Next to this there is a building with columns. The civic number of this building will be the answer that goes on letter E.
WP3: You keep on walking and after a while you turn right on a street called "Postcastello" (in Italian "After castle") which is the only remain of the Frankish castle of Gallarate. At the end of this street you reach a roundabout with a fountain in the middle: this is a sculpture of Arnaldo Pomodoro, dedicated to all partisans dead during the Italian Resistance in WWII.
On this roundabout there is another "historical" shop of Gallarate: a pastry shop/café founded in 1934 and world famous for its "Amaretti di Gallarate". This shop has a lots of windows, but not all are the same: your next clue F is the number of windows that have the name of shop written on the metallic part on top of the window.
WP4: Not even 100m from the pastry shop, there is another witness of the origins of Gallarate: a Gaelic tomb from I century a.C. encased in the middle of the street. Next to it there is the Church of Saint Antony: your next clue GH is the number of squares in the door of the church.
WP5: Now walk along the pedestrian road, and you will reach the main square of Gallarate: Piazza della Libertá (Freedom square).
This square is home of the main cathedral of Gallarate, the Basilique of Saint Mary. This church has been re-built many times: first in the 10th century, then around the 14th/15th century and later between 1856 and 1861. During this last rebuilt, only the temple was rebuilt, but the bell tower, 45 meters tall, is still the one built in 1454.
And it's on the bell tower that you will find the answer to the question that gives you letter I: how many rectangular windows are on the tower, facing the main square?
WP6: A short walk from the tower, is the oldest church of Gallarate and the most important building of the city.
Built between XI and XII centuries, is in romanic style with some gothic elements.
This church will give you two answers:
- J= the number of objects held in the hand of the saint to which the church is dedicated
- K= The number of grey column that supports the arcades that form the fake loggia
WP7: Now you are about to leave the city center (and the walls of the castle), walking along a very narrow street surrounded by shops and cafés, till you reach, at the end of the street, the small altar of the Madonna del Carmine.
Next to this altar there is a 3 figures number which represents the elevation of the place: this gives you the 3 letters LMN
WP8: The last stage of the cache is something more recent, witness of a period in which Gallarate was called the "Manchester of Italy" or "city of the 100 chimneys". Specifically, this chimney was part of a leather processing factory.
Counting the number of faces at the bottom of the chimney you will get the last clue, the letter O.
