The cache is on a soft sandy bay overlooking the mouth of the Exe towards Exmouth. The cache is as the end of Dawlish Warren which is a sandy spit reaching into the Exe estuary. It is a bird sanctuary and one of Ben and Otis's favourite beaches. There is a nice visitors centre behind the dunes, near the car park where you find out all about the history, and wildlife of the beach.
The warden has asked for us to remind walkers to respect the signs about the birds. Please check the signs on groyne 9, and at certain times of the year you must stick to the path along the dunes (which we think is nicer anyway). There are also restrictions about dogs on the beach at various times of year. (see http://www.dawlishwarren.co.uk/ for more info)
The cache is in a small plastic lunchbox and there are some small things to swap. The warden has asked us not to leave anything outside of the box so please do not try and leave any large items. If there is any litter we will have to remove the cache. We are looking forward to seeing you messages!
Being dunes it is possible that the cache may have been moved around by bad weather. Please let us know if it is not where it should be.
Thank you to the Warden of Dawlish Warren for his kind permission to place the cache.
