The Ulster Railway opened Armagh station in 1848, linking the city with Belfast. The Ulster Railway was extended from Armagh to Monaghan in 1858 and Clones in 1863.. The Government of Northern Ireland made the GNR Board close the lines serving Armagh on 1 October 1957: the goods branch from Armagh to Keady and the main line through Armagh from Portadown as far as the border at Glaslough on the way to Monaghan. There are still elements of the old railway line visible today.
The cache, the second in a series of four is places on the edge of the abandoned railway line now overgrown. Access to the cache is from the location of the first cache. You can get access to the embankment via the structure at the first cache and walk along the trail where the track lines use to run. This cache can be accessed from Mullinure Lane but there are lots of thorny briars to negotiate on your way to the cache. The cache is a tablock camo box. Parking is available in Mellifont Close.
