Optimist on the run: Gone missing again. As I don't work over this side of the city any more, I've decided to archive it.

Birmingham Back to Backs

The Back to Backs are the last surviving court of back to back housing in Birmingham, just one of many built in the early 19th century for the rapidly increasing population in the area due to the industrial revolution. Most had been condemned and demolished by the 1970s. In 1988 these remaining examples were given listed status, and were subsequently re-opened as a museum. They can still be visited, but note that entrance is by guided tour only, which must be pre-booked.

You should be able to find the following clues within a very short distance of the given coordinates:-

ABCD = The year that the Theatre Bar was established

E = The number of the National Cycle Network (NCN) route that passes through this location

FG = The number of George Saunders' tailoring shop

HJ = The number of Eliza Wheeler's Wines and Spirits shop

K = The distance in miles to West Bromwich

L = The distance in miles to Redditch minus the distance to Bromsgrove

The cache is located at N52° 28.(C-F)(L-D)(A+K) W001° 53.J(E+H-B)G

Please note - neither the cache nor any of the clues are inside the Back to Backs, and it is not necessary to enter to find them. Accurate GPS reception is difficult in this area, and the difficulty rating of this cache reflects this. The area is much-frequented by muggles, and extreme stealth will be required.

Did you know...
...that in the Birmingham edition of Monopoly, Hurst Street was chosen as the most expensive street in the game, the equivalent of Mayfair in London.
