Returning home from a geocaching weekend in north/central Kansas and south/central Nebraska and decided to explore the surroundings of the town of Cuba, KS. Never been to the island of Cuba before and probably never will, so decided that this Cuba would suffice.
Came across this cemetery that has great slavic heritage. Lots of slavic names here - even found 2 headstones with my last name on them!!! Wonder if they are of any relations - probably not. Out of ALL the cemeteries that I have been to geocaching (over 1000), this is the 1st time that I have seen my sir-name on any headstone - just had to make sure that my 1st name was not on any of them. Thought this cemetery was quite educational for me since I am supposed to be of Czech/Hungarian descent.
Anyway, to get to this cemetery, travel east/west on US Hwy 36 between the towns of Cuba/Haddam, KS. When US Hwy 36 intersects with 27 Road, turn south. Beware: the first part of 27 Road is dirt until you reach the intersection with Penn Road (P RD), then it turns to gravel. Continue south until you reach the intersection with Queen Road (Q RD). Travel east on Queen Road until you get to the cemetery. The cemetery will be on BOTH sides of the road.
Another route to take would be to travel north/south on KS Hwy 139 west of Cuba, KS. When you reach the intersection with Queen Road (Q RD), travel east until you reach the cemetery.
Overhead cover may affect your GPS readings - you have been warned. Also, nice short hike to GZ, nothing to brag about - or is there?!?!?!
Remember that this is a cemetery and please observe any/all rules/regulations that may be posted and that we all have read on page write-ups concerning these locations.
