We will meet at GZ at 2:00, discuss our hobby and geocaching stories, win some prizes, and the event will end at 3:00. Then, for those that are interested, we will walk the 'Pine Ridge Trail'. The trail is a 1.8 mile loop that will take us up the hill, past the AWESOME EAGLE'S nest, thru the devastation of the dericho, and back to the Naturalist Office for a short presentation on the Ozark Chinquapin.
Montauk State Park is one of Missouri's premiere trout fishing parks but, that's not all. As with the other state trout parks, there is much more to see in the area. CCC-era structures(GZ), Montauk Springs(which forms the headwaters of the river), the old grist mill(wonderfully preserved), feedin' the fishies at the hatchery, and the beautiful Current River are more of the sights and sounds in Montauk State Park. Within 15 miles of GZ one can also see Tan Vat and Baptist accesses on the Current River, Susie Nichols farm house and the Lower Parker Schoolhouse, a MDC firetower, and many miles of pretty Ozark Country Roads.
So, grab the kids, dogs(on a leash), walking sticks, camera, GPS, and/or what ever you'll need for a short hike in the amazing color of our Ozark Forests.
