This old iron bridge has really stood the test of time and is still in a surprisingly good condition. It has withstood some amazing floods and on at least three occasions this often small river has risen above the bridge and deposited large amounts of debris in the trusses. Hopefully it will be a while before that happens again and this cache is washed away!
Back in the 50’s when my grandparents fist started visiting this area it was possible to reach this section of the river on a small boat having launched at the river mouth several kilometers downstream and to fish at the base of the cliffs. Unfortunately the river is now so silted up that is flows mostly below ground and in most places is only ankle deep.
So if you have some time to spend on your way down the south coast or on your way back home why not take the back road and stop off to find this cache.
