This cache is placed on an area along the Kickapoo River that is open to the public. You may park your vehicle on the gravel pad, and enjoy the quiet beauty of this little spot. There is a grill provided for you if you would like to cook out, picnic, or camp here. You may also fish and use the boat landing if you want. (All free of charge.)
It should go without saying, but in return, just respect the area. Do not burn outside of the designated areas, bring your own burning materials, and take trash with you when you leave.
If you enjoy kayaking, canoeing, or tubing, the trip from the Plum Creek Landing to the Wauzeka Boat Landing on the southern side of town is 3-4 hours depending on your pace. The drive between the two is less than 5 minutes.
The Kickapoo River originates in Ontario, WI and features swift, shallow, clear waters with beautiful sandstone and limestone rock faces. The river then winds in all directions through Wildcat Mountain State Park, Rockton, La Farge, Viola, Readstown, Soldiers Grove, Gays Mills, Steuben, and Wauzeka before joining the Wisconsin River. Waters then flow into the Mississippi River and to the Gulf of Mexico.
This cache is being started with some trade items: 2 plastic dinosaurs, a bouncey ball, a zebra stripe fuzzy notepad, an unopened tube of superglue, and a Geocoin.
Geocache Placement Notification form has been formally submitted to the Department of Natural Resources. * 5-12-15 Update: I spoke with Dave from DNR today via phone, who had already spoke with the County and with Wauzeka Town Board.
