Geocache Description:

If you found the previous cache, you should be able to find this similar container quite easily. For anyone who did not, I hope you enjoy this cache that is designed with kids in mind.

The container is located outside, near the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center and the Gate House for Lake Wappapello. It is handicapped accessible if one can negotiate a grass lawn. I received permission to place this cache from the Corps of Engineers.

Volunteers and Corps personnel run the facility, but it has lots of muggle visitors too. So some stealth will be required, as it is an open area. There is a covered picnic shelter with restrooms next to the Gate House. It can be reserved for family reunions, etc. So at times there will not be many people, if any, around, and at other times it will be crawling with people. If the Corps is having a special event like a car show, antique tractor show, crafts, 4th of July fireworks, Army birthday celebration, it will be difficult to retrieve the cache unnoticed. There are handicapped accessible restrooms in the Visitor's Center.

From the parking lot, next to Hwy T, during the nesting season, a bald eagle nest can be seen below the dam using binoculars. The Corps personnel can point one in the correct direction or drive on the road below the dam and park in the spillway lot and look back to the tree line. During the nesting season at least one of the adults can be seen sitting on the nest and the other one in a nearby tree during daylight hours.

While here, you can also wander to the other end of the parking lot and get a great view of the scour channel made when the emergency spillway overflowed in 2011.
This cache was adopted by publiclandfun in May of 2022. If there are any issues, please let us know immediately. We take pride in well maintained caches across Southeast MO. There are many other caches as well in the area. Happy Cachin!
