The Chequers pub that used to be one of Kingswood's most popular is to become a supermarket store. A group of residents and councillor launched a campaign to save The Chequers in Lodge Road, but they have now been informed that its owner has exchanged contracts with the supermarket. The pub closed six years ago. Since then, the mock Tudor building has fallen into disrepair and was the victim of a suspected arson attack in 2011. But it had once been hugely popular. A local resident led a campaign to save it in 2012 when he first heard it might be sold to a supermarket. "I and many local residents used this pub for years and it has always been a major part of the community."
