Geocache Description:

Cache placed with permission from The Michigan Nature Association.

Welcome to the Michigan Nature Association's James and Alice Brennan Memorial Nature Sanctuary. The sanctuary is located near Emmett, MI at Bricker and Brennan Roads and is named for the Brennan family who owned this property for over 100 years. This sanctuary is located on one of the headwaters of the Pine River. The Pine River empties into the St. Clair River in the city of St. Clair, MI. Walk through the solitude of the evergreen plantations, floodplains and high slopes with views of the Pine River. The trails are marked with Blue Diamonds to help guide you. Caches are placed as close as possible to the trails and are not meant to be difficult to find but may be harder to access in the winter. Please stay on the trails until you reach the cache. This will help preserve the natural habitat. Please note: You may wish to wear boots as there are floodplains and the area can be very wet at times. There are 2 bridges and a beaver dam located here. Wildflowers are prevalent in the springtime and the fall is breath-taking. Although no hunting is allowed here there may be nearby hunters on private property so dress accordingly. Please enjoy you visit here and return each cache to its location. You can contact The Michigan Nature Association by visiting http://michigannature.org/ . They are always looking for volunteers in helping with the upkeep of all Nature Sanctuaries. Rules Governing Sanctuary Visits: MNA sanctuaries are owned by the Michigan Nature Association but open to the public for non-destructive activities. MNA sanctuaries are established to protect the plants and animals that live in these special places. Humans are visitors. The MNA does not staff any of the sanctuaries, nor are there paved parking lots, trash receptacles, or wide nature trails provided, in keeping with the sanctuary concept. Please support the MNA’s work by observing the following rules: • Collecting plants, seeds, or animals or any kind is strictly forbidden, and in some cases may result in stiff federal or state fines. • Stay on established trails. Where no trails exist, walk carefully to avoid crushing plants. • Only foot traffic is allowed within the sanctuaries. The use of ALL motorized vehicles or mountain bikes is strictly prohibited. • No hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, campfires, or pets are permitted. • Photographers and bird watchers are asked to take special care to avoid accidentally harming plants or the nests of ground-nesting birds. • Carry out all refuse.
