Geocache Description:

A BIT OF HISTORY

The building that houses the restaurant has a unique historical and interesting past. Around 1757 the first owner, Jacobus Botha, built on his farm named Zanddrift, halfway between Bonnievale and Swellendam, a three-roomed worker's cottage typical of this area.

Later his daughter extended the house, after which many generations of the Van Zyl family lived in it, until 1950.By then the house was becoming dilapidated, but happily a solution was found when the Museum authorities wanted to add an original historical farmhouse to the Museum buildings.

In the 1970's the building was moved piece by piece from its original site, and re-erected on the Museum property, where it now serves as this restaurant.

COCA COLA MEMORABILIA HISTORY
