Geocache Description:

A challenging 12km circuit to a seldom visited set of falls on Nixon Creek in the Binna Burra section of Lamington NP. The cache is situated outside the NP boundary along the Numinbah Valley. However it can be done in reverse starting from Binna Burra Lower Bellbird track entrance.

You will need to be reasonably fit to tackle this cache as it involves some rock hopping, off-track bush navigation and some steep scambling. Take usual bush walking precautions i.e. plenty of water, food, appropriate footwear, first-aid kit and tell someone where you are going. Do not attempt this cache after heavy rains.

IMPORTANT: At some point along the hike you will see 2 green NP signs very close together, one has the distance to Binna Burra Information Centre on it. The other has the distance to Lower Ballunjui Falls on it. You will need the distances to help you locate GZ. So keep alert!

Using the waypoints provided, you will need to find Bogabahn Falls and take a waypoint from the flat, rocky slab near the base of the falls in the picture below. Then apply the offset to the south coordinate of S -1.653'.

From here back-track 50m or so from the base of Bogabahn falls and head roughly northwards up the small side creek to another waterfall. Here you scramble up the very steep left bank and head up to the Lower Bellbird circuit. This part is all off-track, but so long as you follow the spur as best you can, you will eventually intersect the track.

Turn right and continue to the clearing where you re-join the Great Walks! track and head down to the culvert where you entered Nixon Creek. Retrace your steps from here. The cache can be claimed on the way back.

If you are attempting the cache from Binna Burra. Park at the entrance to Lower Bellbird circuit and do the whole walk anticlockwise.

GZ is at:

S28° OFFSET-1.653' E153° 13.XYZ'

Where:

XYZ= 0.0126 multiplied by the sum of the distances on each of the 2 signs (incl. decimals)

N.B. Due to likely GPS variations introduced by the offset, you may have to increase your search area a little to find the cache.
